Senior Lunch Volunteer

RCC’s Kind Hearts Program provides bi-monthly luncheon for senior community members. The luncheon attendance is generally 30-35 people at the community center space.  When available, we have a presentation or entertainment during the luncheon. We provide healthy meals on an optional donation basis. We can use support with:

    ○ Assisting with set-up and/or take-down of Senior Luncheon location (tables/chairs, serving food, clean-up) and/or
    ○ Assisting with, plan or prepare meals for Senior Lunch
    ○ Securing donated (or discounted) catered meal for Senior Lunch
    ○ Securing or providing presentation or entertainment at Senior Luncheon
    ○Organizing activities for Seniors (exercise, socials, field trips)

RCC’s Kind Hearts Program provides bi-monthly luncheon for senior community members. The luncheon attendance is generally 30-35 people at the community center space.  When available, we have a presentation or entertainment during the luncheon. We provide healthy meals on an optional donation basis.

Volunteers are an integral part of keeping our Senior Luncheons enjoyable for our community members. The luncheons are a way for us to create a social space and say thanks to a generation who made RCC and other community centers like ours possible through their groundbreaking efforts for LGBTQ people.

Requirements:

We are looking for volunteers who are:

    ○ Friendly and compassionate
    ○ Able to lift up to 20 pounds

Optional:

    ○ Skilled in cooking, planning or procuring donations for healthy meals
    ○ Active and outgoing for organization or facilitation of activity groups

Time/Day Requirements:

Senior Luncheons are the 1st Friday and 3rd Tuesday of each month (unless it falls on or close to a holiday). Volunteers are needed from 10:30am to 2:00pm and 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

Supervision and Support:

Volunteers are supervised by Jill Meyers and James Johnson. RCC will provide necessary training and on-going support will be provided to ensure the volunteer match is successful.

Typical Duties:

    ○ Set Up: Assist with food preparation or pick-up, assist with setting up tables and chairs, assist with cleaning and organizing space, assist with setting up and serving food, greeting guests and providing social conversation. Discuss issues of concern with RCC staff.

    ○ Clean Up: Assist with serving food, provide social conversations, and discuss issues of concern with RCC staff. Assist with cleaning up, throwing away garbage and recycling, storing tables and chairs, vacuuming, washing dishes, and other clean up duties.
