El Cerrito Site Opening – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Opening Party
6491 Portola Dr., El Cerrito, CA, August 11, 2017–
The Rainbow Community Center of Contra Costa County is pleased to announce the opening of our West Contra Costa location in El Cerrito. Our Everything Under the Rainbow thrift store has moved to this location and will be open for business. Services included at this location will include our Kind Hearts Food Pantry, free HIV testing, Counseling and Case Management services and community and social support groups.
Board President, Ken Carlson stated:
“For over two decades the Rainbow Community Center of Contra Costa County has served the LGBTQ community, however, being centrally located in Concord has made it difficult for all to access our services. Our expansion to West Contra Costa County, El Cerrito, is exciting for the Rainbow. We have long hoped to broaden our ability to bring our services to those in need. We look forward to being able to provide support to the entire LGBTQ community in Contra Costa. We hope this expansion will help bridge the distances members or the community have had to travel to access the center and strengthen our community in both unity and voice.”
Executive Director, Ben-David Barr added:
“We are so grateful for the opportunity to expand our services in West County. The office space will be used for counseling services, as well as social/support groups. We also hope to provide a welcoming space to host community meetings and recovery groups (like AA, etc) that will be welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community. Please contact RCC if you are interested in holding a group in our space or serving as a volunteer in our thrift store.”
Please join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 2:30pm where we will be joined by local elected officials and community partners. Later that evening we will be having a Rumba party at 7pm to welcome the community.
The Rainbow Community Center of Contra Costa County (RCC) builds community and promotes well-being among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) people and our allies.
